Semana de la Danza - May
Ponce celebrates historical-cultural events commemorating the danza, a popular turn-of-the-century ballroom dance. The festivities (held in Teatro La Perla) includes conferences, danza concerts by string quartets, a parade, a danza competition and demonstrations by senior couples who danced danza in their youth, in period dress.
La Noche de San Juan - June
On June 24th the island of Puerto Rico celebrates the birthday of St. John the Baptist (the namesake of San Juan). At midnight, it is traditional in Puerto Rico to jump backward into the ocean a few times for good luck.
